Therefore make a note of who the insurance is actually provided by - it may be cheaper to approach them directly. You may also save time as you wont be approaching different people who essentially get the insurance from the same place. What are the policy excesses Back to top Expect at least a £250 excess. Ask the broker for more precise details as these are different according to the policy. What charges does the broker make? Back to top As there is often additional work involved, brokers will include an additional policy fee. Ensure that this is mentioned and how much it is. Ask for written confirmation Back to top Ensure that once your policy is secured you obtain written confirmation explaining all conditions, exclusions and charges. Also make sure that all criminal convictions are declared in this document to ensure that they are fully aware of your situation and so they cannot dispute this in the event of a claim. To check whether you could class yourself as that occupation, ask yourself, - Imagine you were asking a reasonable person who knew what you do for a living. Would they say it was reasonable for you to describe yourself this way
- If they would answer yes… then all is good.
- If they would say no… do not do it.
- If they would say hmmm, I am not sure… check with the insurer.
