Since joining the charity in 2008, Christopher has worked to improve the access that people with convictions have to information and advice to help them overcome difficulties that they face living with a criminal record. He has worked alongside UNLOCK’s Director of Projects on UNLOCK’s work on financial inclusion, including access to basic banking for prisoners and access to insurance for people with convictions and their families. He has also developed UNLOCK’s work around access to employment, including it's work around reforming the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, the Criminal Records Bureau and the Independent Safeguarding Authority. Christopher’s current role includes providing information and advice to UNLOCK’s 4,900+ members, writing and distributing UNLOCK’s monthly e-newsletter, developing UNLOCK’s website with information and advice for people with convictions, managing UNLOCK’s online discussion forum, coordinating UNLOCK’s banking projects in 6 prisons and developing access to insurance for people with convictions and their families. Christopher is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Prison Service Journal. Christopher is himself a reformed offender, having being convicted in October 2006 for theft and converting criminal property. He has first-hand experience of the problems that people face in society living with past convictions. Prior to joining UNLOCK, Christopher graduated from the University of Hull in 2007, gaining a 2.1 in LLB Law, and followed this by completing an LLM Masters in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice at the University of Leeds, graduating in September 2008 with a Merit.
